Patrick Depa Is Facing Potentially 15 Years In Prison For Perjury In A Michigan Lawsuit

Life is hard. However, it’s even harder when you’re an idiot like Patrick Depa. Patrick Depa is now facing potentially 15 years in prison because of his own idiotic behavior.

As we have written about before, Depa does things that that baffle the mind. Yet, we can’t figure out if he has some type of some type of behavioral issues or addiction issues. Or perhaps, he just gets off being a scumbag? Who knows. However, Depa can’t escape he that blatently committed perjury in his testimony in International Outdoor’s litigation with Lamar Advertising. Now, because of that, he could facing prison time under MCL 750.422 and MCL 750.423.

How It All Began

Patrick Depa

It all began after Depa was fired from the city of Taylor. Depa began working as contract salesman with International Outdoor (IO). IO is a billboard advertising business in the Detroit suburbs. Soon after being hired, Depa began showing signs of having substance abuse issues.

His co-workers would often find him slumped over his office computer passed out and reeking or alcohol. When he wasn’t sleeping at his desk, he was busy buying mariquana from a former employee of IO. Depa also liked seending out sexist and racist emails to other IO employees. Namely, racist comments about his boss’s Arabic ancestory. Not smart!

But it get worse! Patrick Depa soon began stealing file from IO and permanently deleting them from IO’s servers. Why would he do this? Depa was intentionally involving himself in workplace sabotage and a malicious smear campaign against IO and Oram. How? Well, for starters he was giving knowingly giving secret information to Lamar Advertising and SS MITX. Lamar Adverting is International Outdoor’s biggest competitor.

Patrick Depa Digs Himself Deeper Into A Hole

In March 2009, IO signed a 5-year land lease with a property owner named SS MITX. This lease allowed IO to put an outdoor billboard on SS MITX’s property in the Detroit suburbs of Auburn Hills. The lease also had option clause that allowed IO to extend the lease through 2019. International Outdoor CEO Randy Oram exercised this option. He wrote SS MITX a check for the option term in December, 2013.

It wasn’t long before the sign location got the attention of Lamar Advertising. For those of you who don’t know, Lamar is the largest billboard advertiser in North America. Lamar began discussions with SS MITX about leasing the property. However, Lamar was fully aware of SS MITX’s lease with IO.

However, the SS MITX lease with IO did not deter Lamar. They saw it as a chellenge and soon began aggresively pursuing the property. This resulted in SS MITX terminating the lease with Randy Oram and IO.

Soon after Patrick Depa decided to abruptly quit working at IO. On his way out the door, Depa didn’t go empty handed. He copied a large number of files from the server to take home with him. Soon after his departure he began having regular conversations with Lamar. Although, evidence in court documents in the litigation between IO. Lamar and SS MITX suggests Depa may have had communication with Lamar prior to his departure from IO. Why else would he steal confidential documents from IO?

The Affidavits Of Patrick Depa

Christopher LeVasseur

Once it bacame obvious Depa had been conspiring with Lamar, attorneys including his own wanted information. They made him sign sworn affidavits about his involvement in Auburn Hills property during his employment with IO.

By doing the affidavits, Depa now committed himself to sitting for depositions and testifying at a potential trial. Of course, this when things went of the rails for Depa.

During his depositions and trial testimony, Depa contradicted the information in his affidavits. Both Depa’s contradictions and actual evidence showed Depa lied in his affidavits. Emails provided by IO’s attorneys and Depa’s own admission shows he did not author the affidavits. Depa later admitted that his attorney Christopher LaVasseur drafted the affidavits.

During his 2019 deposition in the case, IO’s attorneys questioned Depa about the false statements in his affidavits. At this point Depa tried to play dumb and claim he had never done an affidavit before. He also claimed that he, “didn’t know the affidavits had to be precise.”

Yet, emails and text messages show Depa and LeVasseur had extensive conversations about the affidavits. Namely, what information needed to be put in them. So, the question is, what involvement did LeVasseur have in helping Depa draft the perjurious affidavits?
