Michigan Attorney Michelle Elowski Disbared After Court Convicts Her For Fraud And Embezzlement

The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board issued a notice of disbarment Michigan attorney Michelle Elowski. The court also ordered her pay restitution of $266,091.90. 

Police originally arrested Elowski on Feb. 1, 2024. Prosecutors originally charged Elowski with two counts of common law fraud and one count of check fraud. In addition, prosecutors also charged her with two counts of embezzlement by a trustee. 

On Jan. 16, 2025, Elowski pleaded no contest to one count of embezzlement by a trustee and one count of check fraud. All other charges were dismissed. An Oscoda County judge sentenced her to eight months in jail and two years probation for those offenses last year.

The Notice of Disbarment states Michigan Attorney Grievance Commissioner Michael Goetz filed a formal complaint against Elowsk.

Elowski failed to file a response in the legally allowed time. However, witness testimony corroborated the commission’s findings. As did the documentary evidence supporting the allegations in the formal complaint.

As a result, the disciplinary panel found that Elowski misappropriated funds from several clients in matters. They also found that she engaged in illegal conduct. All of which resulted in her criminal conviction.

Michelle Elowski’s Many Ethics Violations

The panel found Elowski that violated the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC) 1.3 and MRPC 1.4(a). In addition they found she also violated MRPC 1.4(b).

Elowski also violation of MRPC 1.5(b)(3) and MRPC 1.15(d). She also knowingly made a false statement of material fact in connection with a disciplinary matter. Thus, this is in violation of MRPC 8.1.(a) and MRPC 8.4(b).

The notice also states that Elowski violated Michigan Court Rules (MCR) 9.104(2) and MCR 9.104(3). In addition, the greivance also says she also violated MRPC 8.4(a) and MCR 9.104(4).

But what, there’s more. They also say she violated MCR 2.615 and MCR 9.104(5). In addition, they she violated MCR 9.104(6).

The panel ordered that Elowski to be disbarred effective January 30, 2026 and that she pay restitution totaling $266,091.90. The court assessed administrative costs  at $3,933.69.

On January 29th, Elowski respondent filed a petition for review pursuant to MCR 9.118. As a result, Elowski’s petition for review is currently pending before the attorney discipline board.
